7.0 Master Specifications

The University of Michigan Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) department maintains specifications on their website.

AEC Architectural Specifications are not intended for, and should not be used for, UMHS projects. The Architectural Specifications that are posted are developed and used by the AEC “Architecture and Engineering” in-house design department, for campus (non-UMHS) renovation projects. Consultants working on UMHS projects should look to UMHS Design Guidelines 6.1 Architectural Technical Requirements and 8.2 Architectural PML.

Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) consultants working on UMHS projects are encouraged to use the MEP AEC Master Specifications. The Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Master Specifications are closely linked to the UM and UMHS Design Guidelines, and are appropriate for use on UMHS projects, as edited to be project specific. In all cases the MEP consultant shall validate that the manufacturers listed under the UMH Preferred Manufacturer's List (PML) reflect those manufacturer's listed in specifications used on UMH projects.

Note: Always use the most recent guideline version. Previous versions are obsolete and are for reference only. To see past UM AEC versions, visit the Technical Requirements page.
