MCORRP Intership FAQ

Who is eligible to apply?
All undergraduate, graduate, and medical students with an interest in cardiovascular research are eligible to apply. Recent graduates and international students with the proper documentation are also eligible. MCORRP is not currently accepting high school applicants or "rising" college freshmen.

What are the dates of the internship?
Program dates vary, but the internship generally begins around the first week of June and ends around the first week of August.

How do I apply?
You will be asked to submit a cover letter along with your current resume or curriculum vitae. More details will be provided after you express interest in the program.

When is the application deadline?
Although subject to change, applications are generally due on January 31st.

How are applications reviewed?
All applications are blinded and reviewed by a selection committee composed of 5-7 junior and senior MCORRP staff members. Applicants are scored on several components (e.g. the quality of application materials, leadership experience, community service/volunteer experience, etc.) and the top-ranked applicants are selected.

When will selections for the internship be made?
Decision notifications are released in mid-March.

I have a vacation planned during the internship. Is this ok?
The internship allows some flexibility for vacation; however, vacations planned during the first two weeks of the internship are highly discouraged. The first two weeks are reserved for orientation and training, and attendance is required.

Can I take classes during the internship?
Interns are encouraged not to take classes during the internship, especially classes that interfere with the work day. If you are required to take a spring or summer course this year, please hold your application until the next cycle. Evening classes are permissible (after 4pm).

Can I work at another job during the summer?
Another job that interferes with the typical work week (9a-5p, Monday-Friday) is not allowed. Evening or weekend jobs are permissible.

Can I apply to work at MCORRP during the year if I can't work during the summer internship?
No. Students wishing to work during the school year are required to complete the summer internship first.

Is housing provided?
No. Housing is not provided. However, our staff can offer advice and make housing suggestions for interns attending from out-of-state. Many interns choose to sublet houses/apartments in Ann Arbor for the summer.

What are the internship requirements/expectations?
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 32 hours per week to complete the mandatory work. This work includes data abstraction and entry.

Is this a paid internship?
Yes. Interns are paid $15 per hour for up to 40 hours per week.

Where is the summer internship located?
The majority of the internship takes place at Arbor Lakes (4251 Plymouth Rd., Ann Arbor, MI); however, some shadowing and volunteering opportunities are available elsewhere (e.g. Frankel Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor, World Medical Relief in Southfield, Northville Health Clinic in Northville).
