Why Michigan?
I selected U-M for the great academic environment and opportunity, but also the fantastic people I met when I interviewed here. And I haven’t been disappointed!!
Describe a typical day.
A typical day varies if I am on a call month or it’s an elective month.
Elective month starts at 8 or 8:30 a.m. with rounding, morning report, noon conference, afternoon rounds and finishing work by 5 or 6 p.m. Call month starts earlier at 6:30 or 7 a.m., with work rounds, teaching rounds and finishing work until the evening. It varies by call month and day, with some months (and days) being busier than others!
What are your joys and your challenges throughout the workday?
My joys and challenges are always patient care. There are complicated patients at this University since it is a tertiary center. I enjoy the challenges of diagnosing and treating diseases that I was told I would never see.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
The music scene in Ann Arbor and the Detroit area is awesome. There’s a ton of cool bands and always nightly music somewhere. Also, I love fishing, and Michigan is a great place to fish with so many lakes.
If a prospective resident has free time in Ann Arbor while they're here interviewing, what would you recommend they do?
I would recommend a resident check out the nightlife – Ann Arbor is not a big city but has great restaurants, is easy to navigate, and has cool bars with a good band scene. If they want a big city, this ain’t it, but it is easier to live here and can be just as fun!
What have you enjoyed about living in Ann Arbor with a family?
I have a 3-month-old daughter, so I am a little new to the family scene. My friends that have kids, though, love it here – great daycares, easy living, a ton of kid activities, great schools and lots of parks, etc. Lots of my friends that have been other places with kids love it here.
What are your plans for the coming year?
In the coming year I will be looking for a job and raising my daughter. Looking forward to it!
Having been here for a while now, what is the number one reason you would recommend Michigan?
The one reason I would recommend U-M to a prospective resident is the great training he or she will get. This is a great place to train and I am very happy to have spent four years here!
