Live
Huron Tower ApartmentsAnn Arbor is a great place to live, and when it comes to housing, there’s a great deal to choose from.
In fact, there are more than 40,000 houses, apartments and condominiums in Ann Arbor and the nearby areas. We hear that many residents prefer the easy living and maintenance of a condo, and some of these are quite stunning.
A Buyer’s Market
Right now, Ann Arbor seems to be a buyer’s market. If you’re coming from out of town and want to purchase a home, this is a great time to buy in this area.
Apartment Living
Rest assured that you’ll get your money’s worth in an apartment here. Because so many people are buying condos and houses, apartment complexes are offering some great deals, such as low or no security deposits, a free month’s rent and so on.
The Cost of Housing
So, what is the price of housing here? As with anything else, cost is relative. If you’re coming from New York, Chicago, Boston or L.A., you’ll think housing prices are a steal. If you’re coming from Pittsburgh, Boise or Buffalo, you may experience some sticker shock. Either way, the good news is that once you settle in, Ann Arbor really does have a lot to offer in terms of culture and entertainment. And, if the cost of living here is higher than where you’re coming from, rest assured that salaries in the healthcare, education and high-tech areas more often than not offset a high cost of living.
Outside Ann Arbor
Many faculty and staff enjoy living in the nearby townships and communities outside of Ann Arbor, including Plymouth, Chelsea, Saline, Ypsilanti, Barton Hills, Dexter, Dixboro, Lodi, Northfield, Pittsfield, Novi, Farmington Hills, Salem and others. Sometimes, housing can be more affordable. Factor in whether – for you – a longer commute will be beneficial in the long run.

Note: The Ann Arbor areas closest to the Medical Campus would be referred to as “Medical Campus” (the area is typically a bit more congested and less upscale), “Northeast,” “Northside,” and “North Campus.”
