Asian American Women and Cancer
Description: Learn how breast cancer affects Asian Americans and about recommended screening
modalities including breast self-exam, clinical breast exam and mammography. Colorectal Cancer is the second leading cause of death among Asian Americans and the 3rd most common cause of cancer deaths in women. Come learn what you can do to protect you and your family from this preventable life-threatening disease through health screening and lifestyle changes!

Abuse Prevention Initiative
The Abuse Prevention Web site is a resource for University of Michigan Health System employees to learn how to help patients and staff members who have experienced abuse.
Car Seat Safety Classes
Research shows that as many as 90% of parents do not use car seats correctly. Don’t put your child at risk. Come to our free safety seat and booster seat inspection where a Certified Safety Technician can show you how to buckle up children of all ages. Certified technicians will let you know if your child safety seat is on the recall list and will give you other timely information. “Happiest Baby on the Block Classes"
Harvey Karp, M.D., is well known for his methods for soothing babies. In Karp’s book, The Happiest Baby on the Block, he explains the “Missing 4th Trimester,” the “Calming Reflex,” the “5 S’s”, and “the Cuddle Cure.” UMHS staff teach hands-on classes. Outpatient Lactation Consultants
The University of Michigan Health System’s Lactation Consultants encourage and support women in their attempts to breastfeed by offering one-on-one consultations. The consultant will spend a minimum of one hour with Mom and baby. The fee for a personal lactation consultation is $75. Appointments are necessary; call 734-936-8886.
