Dating Violence?
  • 1 in 3 women will report being physically or sexually abused by their partner, lover, or a date during their lifetime.
  • Nearly 80% of girls who are physically abused in an intimate relationship continue to date their abuser. Young people tend to interpret their partner’s violence as a sign of love or desire.
  • If violence occurs once in a dating relationship, it is likely to occur again.
  • 40% of girls ages 14 to 17 report knowing someone their age who has been hit or beaten by a boyfriend.
  • 81% of parents surveyed either believe that dating violence is not an issue for their child or admit they don’t know if it’s an issue.
  • 94% to 95% of those who have suffered dating violence do not tell friends or family members about their assaults.
