The Women's Health Program Salutes...

Dr. Sheila Marcus, Department of Psychiatry

Dr. Marcus is a Women's Health Program "star" for many reasons. Because she is loved by both patients and co-workers, and is a relentless supporter of women's health education at the health system and in the community, we awarded Dr. Marcus the 1999 Spirit of Women Award for outstanding clinical service. Upon accepting the award, we asked Dr. Marcus what she finds most rewarding about working in women's mental health. We want to share her response with all of you:

"I have an instant answer. Depressed and anxious women get better! It happens every day. It is delightful indeed; few things are more rewarding. Many women have told me that life was a burden before their illnesses were recognized and treated, and that successful resolution was like getting a 'new lease on life.' Others felt as if 'an enormous black cloud was lifted after successful treatment.' What wonderful feedback!"
