Food Allergies
Food Allergy Awareness Week is officially May 13-19, 2012, but if you are one of the 12 million Americans living with a food allergy, awareness is a daily need.
Even if you personally don’t have a food allergy in your immediate family, awareness is still important! Food allergies affect 1 in every 13 children under the age of 18-an average of two students in every classroom, making it likely that you know someone with a food allergy. Here are Frequently Asked Questions about food allergies. The top high-risk foods in the United States are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish shellfish and sesame seeds.
The University of Michigan Food Allergy Program provides help to people with food allergies and their families. That includes a Community Education Program that helps people of all ages Speak Up and advocate for themselves. It also focuses on Improving Quality of Life for Families with Food Allergies.
