Anyone with the desire to be of service in a health care environment, however, individuals under 16 years of age, and college students in their first semester freshman year cannot be accepted for a volunteer placement.
We require a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of four 4 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months, with the exception of the Summer Teen Program and Pre-Approved appointments.

To schedule an interview, you must first attend an Information Session, where this and many other questions will be answered. You will find the Information Session schedule by clicking the blue button that matches your status (above).
Please bring all application materials with you to once your interview appointment is scheduled. Note: Only Pre-Approved applications may be faxed.

If you have been an active volunteer at Michigan Medicine within the past 2 years, you are considered a “Returning Volunteer” and you do not need to re-apply to continue volunteering. (See Returning Volunteers.) Any volunteer who has been inactive for more than 2 years must reapply. (See procedures for New Volunteers.)
Yes. During the summer Teen Session (June through August) only, we offer a limited number of placements for high school students who are between 16 and 18 years of age (minimum age 16 by June 15), and who have not yet started college. For more information, see High School Teens.
