All Returning Volunteers
If you have been an active volunteer at UMHS within the last 2 years, you are considered a "Returning Volunteer" and you do not need to re-apply to continue volunteering. A "Grace Period" is available for you to schedule your placement and shift time with Volunteer Services.
Grace Period – The Grace Period is the special period of time set aside for all current and returning volunteers to make changes in their placement or schedule before new volunteers are placed. The Grace Period is offered 3 times per year, typically for a 3-week period before the new session begins (April, September, December). During the Grace Period, current and returning volunteers must contact Volunteer Services to reschedule your shift and/or placement. You may walk in to the office, call to reschedule over the phone (if you know where you want to be placed), or send an email detailing your preference for shift time and placement.
College and Graduate Students are required to reschedule their placement for the upcoming session (semester/term) in order to continue volunteering.
Community Members (non-students) remain in their scheduled placement indefinitely, unless/until you want to make a change. The optimum time to make a change is during the Grace Period.
High School Teens (Ages 16-18) who volunteered previously but have not yet started college must call to schedule an appointment during the Spring/Summer Grace Period. (Teens are accepted during Summers only – June thru August.)
IMPORTANT! Once the Grace Period is over, we cannot guarantee a placement for you!
NOTE: Any volunteer who has been inactive more than 2 years must resubmit an application.
