Who may volunteer at the UMHS?
Anyone with the desire to be of service in a health care environment with the exception of the following:
- Individuals under 16 years of age
- First semester college freshmen
What is the volunteer commitment?
We require a minimum of two (2) hours and a maximum of four (4) hours per week for a minimum of six (6) months (Exception: Summer Teen Program).
How do I become a volunteer?
- (Students only) Attend one mandatory Information Session before scheduling an interview (College Students: April, September or December and High School Students: April only)
- Complete/Collect application materials
- Collect all items on the Volunteer Interview Checklist
- See Important Dates for how and when to schedule an in-person interview. (Interviews are held three times a year: January, May and September).

When do I submit my application materials?
Please bring all application materials with you to your scheduled interview. Applications received in any other form (fax, email, etc.) are not accepted.

I volunteered at the UMHS previously and would like to return. What do I need to do?
If it has been less than two years since you last volunteered, call Volunteer Services at 734-936-4327 during the Returning Volunteer Grace Period. If it has been more than two years, you will need to re-apply.
Do you have a Teen Program?
Yes. High school students, at least 16 years of age by June 30, may volunteer for our Summer Teen Program which runs from June-August.
I am a musician and would like to play for the patients. How do I arrange this?
The Gifts of Art Program handles all these requests. Information is available on their website at www.med.umich.edu/goa or by calling 734-936-ARTS. (734-936-2787).
My group wants to visit children in C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. How can we do this?
The Mott Community Relations Office handles all these requests for C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Please call their office at 734-764-6874.
