Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the University of Michigan Health System.  We are currently no longer accepting appointments for Fall (September - December) volunteer opportunities.  Volunteer opportunities in CS Mott Children’s Hospital, Women’s Hospital , University Hospital and clinical departments are filled.  However, we are actively recruiting volunteers for the following opportunities:

Website Developer - Develop a new website for the Mott Buckle Up! Program.  This web-site will serve as a state-wide, database operated as a resource for Child Passenger Safety.

Comprehensive Cancer Center Patient Guide - The volunteer will meet with new patients (both adult and pediatric) and their families at their first Cancer Center appointment and provide a welcoming environment during high stress and anxious time for the patient.  This role is designed to provide companionship and emotional support from the time of arrival and throughout the day.  This position is available during normal business hours, Monday-Friday. 

Comprehensive Cancer Center Patient Lounge Volunteer - Welcome patients/families to lounge area, a comfortable environment for patients to take a break and relax.  The volunteer in this role must be 18 years of age, dependable and compassionate. This position is available during normal business hours.

Motor Meals Volunteer - Motor Meals provides home delivered meals for the frail, elderly and disabled of the Ann Arbor area, so that they may remain in their homes with dignity.  Clients receive both lunch and dinner on a six-day delivery schedule with an optional meal for Sunday.  Volunteers deliver meals in their own vehicle.  If interested, please contact Motor Meals directly at aamotormeals@umich.edu or by calling 734-998-6686.  (NOTE:  Some companies/groups/organizations adopt a route and deliver meals during their lunch hour).  Also available on Saturday.

FRIENDS Gift Shop Volunteer - This volunteer role provides a service to patients, visitors, employees, and staff as well as fund-raising support to non-funded projects by working in either the FRIENDS Gift Shop or the Carousel Gift Shop.  The Carousel Gift Shop is located in the Mott/Maternal Child Health Center.  Weekend opportunities are available.  Each purchase at a FRIENDS Gift Shop makes a difference in the life of a patient and their family.

HELP/Hospital Elder Life Program - The volunteer in this role will help maintain cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being in hospitalized older patients.  Assists with therapeutic activities, supportive visits, feeding assistance, an early mobilization.  Mature adults are strongly encouraged to apply for this volunteer opportunity.  Excellent training and a one-year commitment is strongly requested.  For additional information, please call 734-936-5964.

Way-finding Volunteer - This volunteer position provides escort service to patients and their families and visitors to the Health System.  There is a special Mott Way-finding Program due to construction on the third floor. General way-finding is available seven days a week.  The Mott third floor way-finding is currently available late afternoon and possibly evening.  (Minimum age 16 years old.)

MBCP Volunteer - To provide assistance for research and database organization: data entry for the Michigan Bowel Control Program.

Office Assistant - We are looking for a friendly outgoing person with computer skills to provide assistance with the day-to-day operations within Volunteer Services.

These volunteer opportunities require a minimum six (6) month commitment.  Please contact Volunteer Services for additional information.

If you are interested in volunteering with us Winter 2009, we will begin accepting calls to schedule interview appointments the week of  Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 9:00 am and will continue to accept calls until all of the available appointments are filled. Interviews will begin on Monday, January 12, 2009. We ask volunteers for a six month commitment, usually donating 2-4 hours per week.  The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years.

The reference forms may be hand-carried to the interview appointment. Failure to have all of the requested materials may require you to forfeit your interview appointment.
