The Reed Nesbit Society Meeting

Reed M. Nesbit Society and Visiting Professor Meeting
October 27-29, 2011
On behalf of the University of Michigan faculty and staff, we look forward to hosting you at the 26th Reed M. Nesbit Society and Visiting Professor Meeting, October 27-29, 2011 in Ann Arbor.
The meeting will begin on Thursday, October 27th, at 1:30 pm at the University of Michigan Palmer Commons. This year’s Visiting Professor will be Marshall Stoller, MD, Professor and Vice Chair, Urology; Director, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Endourology; University of California, San Francisco. He is an internationally recognized stone expert and it will be exciting to hear his insights into the state of stone management and treatment. Since stones are treated by nearly every urologist, Dr. Stoller should be of interest to nearly all of the membership. Dr. Stoller will be giving two talks: “Utilizing the Fruit Fly as an Animal Model for Urinary Stone Disease” and “Systemic Implications of Nephrolithiasis.” A welcome reception and tour will follow in the evening at the new CS Mott and Von Voigtlander Hospital.
The scientific session will resume Friday morning with presentations by UM faculty, alumni and residents. We welcome talks by the membership —several have already committed— and if you have a talk that you would like to give, please contact me as soon as possible. Continuing our new tradition of inviting interesting speakers from outside of urology, we are happy to announce that John Beilein, UM’s head men’s basketball coach, has agreed to speak on Friday, October 28th. The Wolverines just came off a nice season which earned them a spot in the NCAA tournament and we are honored to have Coach Beilein speak with us. The annual Nesbit Society Reunion Dinner will follow on Friday night at Barton Hills Country Club. For Saturday, we have a new tailgate location closer to the stadium, which we are excited about. The tailgate party will begin at 9:00 am (look for the Nesbit flag!) for the 12 pm kickoff. We hope for a perfect ending to the weekend with a Michigan victory over Purdue at the homecoming game.
