Scott Merz

Scott Merz co-founded Michigan Critical Care Consultants (MC3) in 1991. MC3 is a leading developer in the area of artificial lung technologies having designed an artificial lung, called the Biolung®. As MC3 President, Mr. Merz merged MC3's artificial lung technology with a group in Germany to form a startup, Novalung, GmbH, which is the first company actively marketing artificial lungs. In addition to ongoing R&D in blood pumps and other early stage device technologies, MC3 has developed biomaterials and device coatings to improve the biocompatibility of medical devices, a business which was recently spun off as Accord Biomaterials. Mr. Merz earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
