Faculty: Sara Warber, M.D.

Dr. Warber received her medical degree from Michigan State University, and completed her Internship and Residency with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan. She completed a Fellowship in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Michigan and is currently an Assistant Professor at UM in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Warber studied herbalism and spiritual healing for 14 years with a Native American Healer. As the Co-Director of the University of Michigan Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Dr. Warber has been awarded the administration of one of 12 National Institutes of Health funded national centers dedicated to research and education in the practice of integrative medicine. Her research interests include the use of herbs, energy healing, environmental healing, and the therapeutic relationship.

Clinical Focus

She has practiced Holistic Family Medicine at UM Chelsea Family Practice since 1993 and is co-founder and current Co-Director of University of Michigan Integrative Medicine.

In 2000, Dr. Warber became a Founding Diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and in 2003, she expanded her clinical practice to include Holistic Women’s Health and Holistic Herbal Medicine Consultations at the UM Integrative Medicine Clinic. Dr. Warber invites the whole family, children, adults, and elders, to experience Holistic Healthcare. Each health partnership includes an extensive history taking session, negotiation of an individualized wellness plan, and long tern support to achieve your health goals.

Research Focus

Dr. Warber is the Principal Investigator on a R25 education grant awarded by the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, to support the development of integrative medicine curricula for the UM Schools of Medicine and Allied Health. In this capacity she has been instrumental in developing a 4-year complementary and alternative medicine course sequence for undergraduate medical students. She has also been a key figure in the design of an Integrative Medicine Clinic at the University of Michigan Health System. Dr. Warber sits on the Steering Committee of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine and on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Holistic Medicine.
