Medical School Curriculum

Each student graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School since 2000 have participated along with about 200 integrative physicians and practitioners. Instruction has touched upon the following five CAM domains as identified by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM):

The Curriculum includes required didactics in the first two years of medical school, along with community visits and elective opportunities. Lectures in the clinical years are augmented by both clinical and research electives.

Graduate Medical Education opportunities vary among fields. The Department of Family Medicine have 16 required web units on a variety of topics, including massage, manual medicine, acupuncture, mind-body techniques and a number of units based on an Integrative Approach to different disease processes. A number of programs around the country use these modules in the education of their students and residents.
