Monica Myklebust, MD
Monica Myklebust, MD is an
Integrative Medicine consultant
who offers care to adult individuals
seeking fresh and comprehensive
approaches to medical challenges
and to optimal health. Her conventional
training in Family Medicine at
Mayo Clinic established a solid
foundation for her further fellowship
training in Integrative Medicine
under Dr.
Andrew Weil at the University
of Arizona's Program in Integrative
Medicine.
Starting her professional career
as a cytogenetic technologist,
Dr. Myklebust first worked in clinical
laboratories diagnosing chromosome
abnormalities and then working
in Down Syndrome research at the
University of California San Francisco.
She lived in the People's Republic
of China for one year educating
Chinese physicians about American
culture and conversational English.
The paucity of opportunity among
medical professionals there compelled
her to pursue further education
at the University of Minnesota
School of Medicine upon returning
home to the U.S.
Practicing conventional Family
Medicine in Minneapolis at a community-based
clinic, hospital, and nursing home
is where Dr. Myklebust spent five
years. Despite a very rewarding
practice, she was drawn to taking
a more active role in optimizing
the healthcare and medical education
systems in this country. The fellowship
in Integrative Medicine offered
her the breadth and depth of knowledge
in many healing systems and modalities
to prepare her to facilitate the
integration of the best of conventional
and alternative practices within
healthcare systems.
Guiding people through the maze
of choices in healthcare using
the tools of compassion, evidence,
and experience is one of Dr. Myklebust's
goals. Communication with all providers
of care is a priority, as is coordination
of services. The weaving of science,
culture, community and health has
played a central role in her personal
and professional development.
Dr. Myklebust believes that by
bringing the philosophies and practices
of many healing systems together,
Integrative Medicine offers the
best healing options to people
struggling with medical challenges,
people pursuing optimal wellness
and to physicians and other healthcare
professionals who are suffering
from compassion fatigue. She also
believes that Integrative Medicine
offers great hope in healing our
medical education and healthcare
systems. |
