Onboarding & Orientation: Learning the Routine
(First Few Months)
What’s Required? Things a Supervisor needs to do.
Encourage employee to fill out the New Hire Survey and submit to HR with feedback
Set task assignments and progress meetings – meet with employee periodically to review progress, assess training needs, offer coaching and receive feedback and questions
If there are significant performance concerns, contact HR.
Set objectives for the coming year with employee
Review position description and performance expectations and revise, if necessary

You and your employee have covered all the basics. Now it’s time to go a step further. During the first month, make it a priority to meet one-on-one with your new employee at least once a week. Some of the topics to cover include:

Check in with employee’s Buddy, to see how they are doing.
Review use of Wolverine Access Web site.
Encourage employee to check the UM Online Directory to make sure their name and department information is correct.
Encourage employee to check their first paycheck information to ensure it reflects their medical plan choices, payroll deductions and personal information correctly.
