Stand-Alone Box Trainers UMCSC currently has three standalone box trainers. Each of the box trainers have a port holder at waist level and an operating room preview system hooked to it. The preview system has a monitor and props to hook up a camera light source.

The port holder is capable of holding a camera (To practice camera manipulation) and 2 instruments. (To practice pick and drop or pick and move maneuvers). Video signal can be output from these systems and be routed to any appropriate location.

Box trainers are an excellent mechanism to train for:

Eye Hand Co-ordination
Camera handling in the OR
Suturing techniques
Grasping mechanisms and point-to-point movement
Clip applying and cutting
