The University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art medical education using dynamic teaching tools. Through the use of the Clinical Simulation Center, faculty provide risk free, hands-on educational programs for Anesthesiologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Intensivists, Internal Medicine Physicians, Radiologists, Surgeons, Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Gynecologists and others. Courses for Nurses, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists, and other clinical personnel are also provided.
Research on the development, maintenance and transfer of procedural skills from the simulators to patients is a major component of the Clinical Simulation Center's mission. The center facilitates interdisciplinary contacts and relationships throughout the medical center, university, national, and international medical education communities.
Although the use of simulation technology is gaining wide acceptance in medicine, the technology is well established in other professions. Examples include the use of flight simulators for pilots and astronauts, military training exercise, management training for business executives, and technical operations for nuclear power plants. The clinical simulation center allows UMHS faculty and trainees to apply state-of-the-art simulators to learning the practice of medicine. Our patients will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this Center.
