There are many causes of renal failure. Kidneys may be damaged by kidney infections (pyelonephritis), diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney
disease or severe injury. Some people have kidney failure due to birth defects. But kidney failure can happen to anyone. Once your kidneys fail, there is no drug you can take to make them start working again. You have to have something else do their job (dialysis) or you have to get a new kidney (transplantation).
