a blood clot formed in a blood vessel (vein or artery); a transplanted kidney is connected to the recipient by an artery and a vein, and occasionally one of these blood vessels may become clogged with a blood clot; this occurs in about 2% of all kidney transplants, but is serious because it causes the new kidney to die, and then it has to be removed.
