Your participation will ensure that TransWeb continues to grow.

You Can Be A TransWeb Topic Editor!

Topic editors are responsible for gathering information on a given topic within TransWeb for the creation of new pages and ensuring that the information TransWeb provides on that topic is as current and complete as possible. As TransWeb grows, so does our need to stay up to date and comprehensive to remain helpful to the transplant community.

This requires a level of commitment and involvement (varying from an hour a week to as much time as you can devote to it). Pages generated by the topic editors are reviewed by the board; the webmaster will facilitate as necessary. Topic editors may want to pair up with HTML wizards or other people from the TW freelancers in order to handle their pages independently.

Topic editors come from all segments of the transplant community (transplant patients and their family members and friends, health care providers, organ procurement specialists, donor families, and interested members of the general public). Let us know if you want to volunteer!

The Ask TransWeb Panel

We're delighted that Ask TransWeb has been so popular. Its continued success depends on having a panel of experts standing by to answer questions in a timely fashion (i.e. within 2 days of receiving the question from the webmaster).

If you have an email address and think you can help out, please let us know. We would like to have several panel members per topic, so that no one is overburdened, and so that if one panel member is unavailable, others cover the same question. Ask TransWeb panel members may also serve as topic editors or contribute to TransWeb in other ways.

If you are interested in serving on the Ask TransWeb Panel, please see the Ask TransWeb Panel guidelines.

Join the TransWeb Freelancers!

Interested in helping build TransWeb, but in a less formal role? We'd love to hear from you! Email transweb@umich.edu or call 313-998-7314.

We need the following people who can help on an occasional (or even one-time) basis as volunteers. Regular access to the Web and an email address are recommended but not required in all instances. Efforts will be coordinated through the webmaster.

page reviewers
...people with the specific transplantation or donation expertise necessary to review pages for accuracy, completeness, etc. prior to publication.

content contributors
...people who can help by providing the information that TransWeb lacks (for example, a listing of transplant support groups in New York or London, or medical illustrations of the liver... the wish list is endless!)

correspondents
...people with a given special interest who are willing to file occasional reports and updates (on a topic that experiences change frequently)

liaisons
...people who will spread the word about TransWeb to others, in an attempt to interest others in their community or at their institution in becoming users of and contributors to TransWeb.

HTML wizards
...people who can format Web pages in standard HTML (when given the plain text) and run pages through WebLint or another HTML checker.

graphics guys & gals
...people with graphics and web design experience who can help us improve TransWeb's visual appeal.

the big picture people
...people with ideas on material or sections to add, prospective TransWeb projects, visions of the future of TransWeb, etc.

proofreaders
...people who can spot a misspelling, punctuation error, or missing apostrophe at 100 paces.

link police
...people who will seek out and report broken or outdated links (as well as missing pages, etc.) within TransWeb and from TransWeb to the first page of other sites.

site scouts
...people who will troll the Net for related documents that are candidates for links from TransWeb
