Davinci

This device consists of a three arm Robot that holds a three dimensional camera in one arm, a dissecting instrument, and grasping forceps in the remaining arms. The instruments are advanced into the abdominal cavity through keyhole incisions, using the same approach as conventional laparoscopic instruments. Complete dissection of the kidney is performed by the surgeon who commands the tips of the instruments to replicate wrist and finger motion. At the time of kidney removal a small incision is made in the lower abdomen and the kidney is placed in a bag and removed for preservation and transplantation. This technology offers precise dissection by more flexible instruments, better visualization of structures by way of a three dimensional picture, and there is always the option of removing the Robotic arms and performing surgery through the same incisions using the traditional instruments.
