The Transplant Program
Transplants have been occurring at the University of Michigan Transplant Center since the first transplant in Michigan was performed here in 1964. We perform approximately 404 transplants annually, making us the largest and most experienced transplant center in Michigan - and among the largest in the nation.
Our Goal
Our goal is to maintain our tradition of excellence in transplantation. Since 1964 the University of Michigan has been a leader in organ transplantation. We have seen transplantation go from a highly experimental and risky procedure to a highly successful medical therapy. Despite these successes we still have a long way to go. The University of Michigan Transplant Center is committed to cutting edge research that will benefit today's patient and the patients of the future. We are dedicated to leadership in the development of innovative techniques, to improvement in the quality of life for organ transplant recipients, to education programs related to transplantation, and to enhanced organ donation awareness aimed at improving the availability of organs. |
