General Information

The Telemedicine Resource Center is dedicated to extending UMHS clinical and educational services to patients and families within Michigan who reside a great distance from UMHS. Through the use of telemedicine, physicians and other health care providers have the ability to treat and educate patients and their families using telecommunication technology.

Telemedicine can bring a specialist or group of multidisciplinary specialists, located hundreds of miles away into the examination room via a live interactive system.  Patients and their families have the opportunity to receive subspecialty care near their homes. Our providers can perform evaluations, follow ups, or education, while patients and  families have the convenience of staying within their communities and not traveling a great distance.

For the patient, telemedicine increases accessibility to UMHS resources, reduced out of pocket travel expenses and improves continuity of care.

The knowledge and expertise of the University of Michigan Health System is accessible to patients, physicians and other health care professionals around the world via the University of Michigan Telemedicine Resource Center. Consultations, educational programming and administrative conferences offered through the telemedicine program provide vital, cost-effective, and confidential medical services to virtually any location, rural or urban, within Michigan or international. Patients can now benefit from the latest knowledge, technology and treatment while remaining under the care of their hometown health care provider.
