Approval Process
This process was
developed in response to the JCAHO standard MS.5.16.1, effective
1/1/01, regarding recommendation of telemedicine services to be
provided by an organization's medical staff. The standard reads:
The medical staff
recommends the clinical services to be provided by telemedicine.
The process was created
to ensure that all telemedicine activities at UMHHC meet equivalent
standards of patient care delivery as traditional face-to-face care.
The following steps are
to be taken in the event a faculty member/clinician chooses to
provide clinical care via telemedicine:
1. Faculty member completes
Telemedicine Service Delivery Notification form. Intent of service
delivery to include:
· Services to be
delivered/received
· Physician/providers delivering/receiving services
· Sites (UMHS and non-UMHS) to which services will be
delivered/received, including contact name and phone number
· Duration of anticipated service delivery
· Chairperson approval signature
2. Faculty member(s)/Department Chair/Service Chief
submits form of intent to deliver/receive specific telemedicine
services within their specialty/subspecialty to the Office of
Clinical Affairs (OCA).
3. OCA will keep ECCA informed of all activities
related to telemedicine service delivery.
4. OCA acts as central repository for UMHS clinically
approved telemedicine services.
Questions regarding the
above procedures should be directed to the Office of Clinical
Affairs, (734) 615-1274.
