The Telemedicine Resource Center (TRC) serves to
support, facilitate and enhance the University of Michigan Health
System’s broad mission of improving health and well being by
setting, meeting and integrating high standards for leadership in
patient care, education, research and community service. The range
of services provided by the UMHS include comprehensive inpatient
care, outpatient clinical consultations in various specialty areas;
diagnostic services, continuing medical education and clinical and

facilities and services for patients and referring providers
regardless of their geographic location.
Telemedicine is used by the UMHS
to extend the reach of its clinical and scientific expertise
throughout Michigan, the United States and other countries on the
basis of collaborative agreements and sound business management. It

expertise for patients and their families; it enhances collaboration
and coordination between referring providers throughout the State
and other places and consulting providers at the UMHS; it expands
the scope of continuing medical education; and it provides support
for UMHS faculty, students and staff in utilizing sophisticated
information technology in patient care, management and research.
