Roadtrips

1. Hours of operation: 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday

2. Notify SWAT of all road trips as soon as it has been ordered/the requistion has been written. Call 6-6032 or page 8000.

3. Notify the respiratory therapist of all impending road trips ASAP on their assigned pager or call the respiratory supervisor on pager 1550.

4. Re-notify SWAT and respiratory therapy ASAP once a road trip time has been assigned. We will call you if we hear of a time first.

5. Please have patient ready for transport (i.e., on a stretcher, transport monitor attached, trip box, chart, O2 tank etc...) 15 minutes prior to scheduled road trip. This ensures that the patient will arrive to their scheduled appointment on time, therefore not losing their appointment slot.

6. Be prepared to give the SWAT nurse a patient report. This should include: reason for admission, history of present illness, vital signs, allergies, code status, patient weight, IV access, drips, meds given and/or needed. A hands-off report form is available.

7. Keep in mind that for many procedures the patient must remain completely still. An order for sedation/analgesia is often necessary. Tests/procedures have been cancelled due to patient restlessness, agitation or anxiety issues.
