Sewing Guidelines

Rule #1: Use Your Imagination - Get Creative and Have Fun!

Stockings should have a cuff.

Stockings & mittens should also have a loop or ribbon sewn in for hanging.

Finished stockings & mittens should measure: 15-1/2” high x 9-1/2” wide.

The width of the “toe” of stockings should measure: 11-1/2” at the widest portion.

The width of the “thumb” of mittens should measure: 11” at the widest portion.

Design Tips: Our patients encompass all ages, ethnicities and religious backgrounds. Therefore, it is important to refrain from making stockings/mittens that are “Christmas” in nature. Instead, please use themes such as – snowmen, winter, polar bears, Michigan (“M”), fishing, animals, skates, gingerbread houses, toys, flowers, etc. In the past, we’ve also had stockings made from old jeans with a pocket on the stocking; poodle skirt themes, coca cola themes, and quilt themes.
