13th ANNUAL HOLIDAY STOCKINGS
FOR CHEMOTHERAPY PATIENTS PROJECT

Our History

In 1999 a young co-worker, Lisa, was diagnosed with cancer, so we came up with the idea of making stockings as a distraction from treatment. That year, we made & filled 75 stockings with toys and gave them to our pediatric chemotherapy patients. The following year (at Lisa's urging) we added our adult patients. The patient and family reaction was so positive that we continued, each year sewing, filling and distributing more than the last.

in 2009, we decided to focus strictly on our adult patients - the "young at heart". If you could see those smiles...

Lisa Cummins is still in remission and this year is completing her nursing education. She is also co-chair of this project along with Susan Blaisdell.
