Thoracic Intensive Care Unit

Welcome to the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (TICU). This is a 10-bed ICU on the north side of the intensive care area. The TICU cares for patients that have had an array of thoracic procedures to surgically treat their heart, lung or any thoracic cavity disease. We are the surgical half of the ICU beds in the Heart Care Program. The other half is the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) which is located on the 7th floor and is the medical portion of the program. The TICU has two primary thoracic surgery services that are each made up of faculty and residents. The services are the Surgery Thoracic Cardiac (STC) which cares for patients with all types of heart disease and the Surgery Thoracic General (STG) services which cares for general thoracic patients. Once the patient is admitted to the TICU they are co-managed by the Adult Anesthesia Critical Care Service, which is made up of a team of an anesthesiology faculty, and residents, sometimes and occasionally a cardiology fellow.
