Senior Housing Awareness Week — May 9-18, 2008
During Senior Housing Awareness Week the public is invited to explore a wide variety of senior housing and care options. It is an opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by seniors as their housing and care needs change. SHAW is a chance for seniors and their family members to start thinking about their future housing and personal care needs, and how these needs can best be met. It is a time to gather the information needed to make informed choices.
Changes in health or other life circumstances may raise questions. For example — Do I want to stay in my present home? What about moving to senior housing? How can I get ready to move? Should I remodel? How can I make decisions about my housing and care? What can I afford?
During SHAW the public is invited to:
- Visit many senior housing communities offering Open Houses.
- Explore choices with housing, personal care and organizing professionals at a Housing and Living Expo.
- Attend seminars about planning and adapting. Experts discuss subjects such as “Housing Transitions and Options for Older Adults,” “Assisted Living: Tools for Decision Making,” and “Monitoring Expenses to Ensure Care.”
SHAW has become so successful that each year during the month of May, local and state government officials have proclaimed a Senior Housing Awareness Week in Washtenaw County.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and supporters, all events are provided at no cost to the public.
The Housing Bureau for Seniors is grateful to the sponsors who have contributed funding to SHAW over the years. Hats off to:
