We are a full-service, 24-hour public safety department. We work closely with the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety.
The duties of our Public Safety Officers include:
- performing baseline investigations in incidents such as theft reports and vehicle accidents;
- monitoring the UMHHC fire alarm, access control, security camera, duress/intrusion alarms and infant protection systems;
- triaging calls for medical assistance, dispatching appropriate response team, and responding to and assisting with medical emergencies;
- assisting clinical staff with the physical management of patients;
- assisting the ED with assault victims, helicopter offloads, and trauma cases, morgue assists;
- providing the UMHHC with an extensive set of staff education and services related to work place violence prevention and crime prevention;
- providing security patrols and escorts, visitor screening, motorist assists;
- promoting patient, visitor, and staff safety through a variety of services and programs
Our mission/goals are centered around providing quality customer services while maintaining a safe environment for our patients, families and staff. That's why our officers constantly receive training to stay current in all aspects of health care security.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found / Patient Property Desk is located on the first floor of the University Hospital. Found property is kept for 30 days. Customer Service functions provided at this location include: key sign out, hospital pager services (issuance, repair, replacement), and miscellaneous information / customer services. Staff can report personal missing or lost items here online.

Our Bike Patrol Program allows our officers to be more interactive with the community we serve. The program deters crime, and allows for fast response times for calls for service in high-traffic areas and during high-traffic times. This is just one of the many ways we are working to make the Health System safe and more efficient.
