Improving Patient Safety in Hospitals: Turning Ideas into Action

The U-M Health System, supported by an educational grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, is hosting this comprehensive look at patient safety in the hospital setting. The conference will feature UMHS and guest faculty presenters, panel discussions and opportunities for audience questions. Course objectives include "implementation of practical changes that improve safety and reduce adverse events for hospitalized patients," methods for transforming root-cause analyses into gains in quality and patient safety," and "hands-on examples of changes that have improved quality and safety in hospitals in Michigan.

There is no charge for the conference, which is designed for clinician leaders (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals) and administrators (CEOs, COOs, QI department leaders, risk managers, etc.) who are responsible for patient safety. Participating hospitals may also wish to utilize the live video-conference component. At the time of the conference, it will be available from a link on this Web page. In the meantime, the link will connect participants to commercial streaming video that will allow them to verify compatability, picture quality and test their equipment.
