The 12th International Symposium on Gastrointestinal Hormones will be held at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan, (USA) September 16-20, 1998. The role of gastrointestinal hormones as important regulatory factors is generally accepted. Gut peptides are ubiquitous in their expression and have taken on increased significance in recent years as the breadth of their biological actions has expanded to include roles as neurotransmitters, trophic factors, and modulators of behavior. This symposium will highlight the newest insights regarding the biology of gastrointestinal peptides as well as the pathophysiological implications of these observations. The integrated program will cover the full range of new findings including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology to organ physiology, and behavior in health and disease. The symposium will provide an ideal forum to present and discuss the most significant recent contributions in the field. A major goal of the meeting is to provide travel support for promising young investigators to present their research and have the opportunity to interact with established contributors.
