Don Roberts, PhD, DABR:
Assistant Professor
Biography
Don joined our department in 2006 as a clinical faculty after completing his residency in Medical Physics within the department. Prior to that, Don had a career as an experimental nuclear astro-physicist. He is a board-certified therapeutic radiologic physicist by the American Board of Radiology and also an authorized medical physicist in High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). He is actively involved in various clinical services including high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, stereotactic radio surgery (SRS), and stereotactic body radiosurgery (SBRT), as well as quality assurance.
Clinical Service
- Brachytherapy: Performs and supervises planning, quality assurance of the treatment delivery system, radiation safety checks (HDR – GYN).
- External therapy: Supervises quality assurance of the treatment delivery linear accelerators (LINAC) and CT scanner.
- Member of Quality Focus Group.
- Lead for Machine Team (Quality Control).
Teaching
- Co-supervisor for shielding, quality assurance and general physics rotations for medical physics residents.
- Instructor for Allied Health Radiation Physics course (RTT 431 and 432) – radiation safety, radiation shielding and quality assurance.
- Instructor of record for RTT 431 and 432.
- Instructor for Radiotherapy Physics courses for Radiation Oncology Residents – Linear Accelerator theory and operation, and clinical quality assurance.
Research Interests
- Clinical Application of advanced technologies
- Development and use of MLC based penalties for VMAT optimization.
Current Clinical Projects
- Clinical Application of advanced technologies
- Development and use of MLC based penalties for VMAT optimization.
