The Radiation Oncology Network is a group of seven clinics partnering
with the University of Michigan to provide radiation therapy in
Alpena, Ann Arbor, Jackson, Lansing, Mt. Pleasant, Novi, and Southfield.
By fostering interregional and inter-institutional collaboration,
the network provides an effective channel for the U-M to work with
radiation oncology centers throughout Michigan, resulting in shared
resources, improved therapeutic mechanisms and, ultimately, better patient
care.
Highlights of the Radiation
Oncology Network:
• Expanding U-M Department
of Radiation Oncology outreach
Each partner site is co-run by the University of
Michigan and is staffed with at least one full-time
U-M physician.
• Utilizing state-of-the-art
technology to better serve patients
Advances in telemedicine and teleconferencing resulted
in the capacity to evaluate a patient at one partner
site and perform radiation treatment planning at
a different partner site.
• Advancing therapy
by sharing resources
All sites share the same sophisticated software that
allows for treating the tumor and sparing the surrounding
normal tissues.
• Improving accessibility
to patients
By having locations throughout
a vast service area, the U-M and its
partners make it possible for patients
to receive the treatment that they need
as conveniently as possible – minimizing
the time and discomfort commonly associated
with traveling long distances for care.
