Double Contrast UGI

(Murlean’s Recipe for Success)

 

  1. Double Contrast Upright Esophagram
  2. Turn patient prone and lower the table.
  3. Roll patient away from you (to the left). Stop in supine position.
  4. Supine Gastric “Safety Shot.”
  5. Roll towards you one complete rotation and repeat #4, if not coated.
  6. Supine AP magnification shot of gastric antrum and body.
  7. Turn patient LPO.
  8. Greater Curvature and distal antrum air-filled shot.
  9. Turn patient RPO while imaging the flow across the body (from greater to lesser curvature).
  10. Turn patient Right Lateral.
  11. Magnified Double Contrast fundus.
  12. De-Magnified shot of fundus and bulb (single contrast).
  13. Roll patient back into LPO.
  14. Air-filled bulb and antrum shot.
  15. Upright air filled bulb in LPO. (Done if #12 is not adequate).
  16. OPTIONAL (Cohan): LPO and RPO upright to show air-filled fundus.
  17. Return patient to prone position. 
  18. Prone Esophagram (RAO).
  19. Compression of  distal stomach and bulb (prone).
  20. Check for Reflux
