Pediatric CT Abdomen and Pelvis

Considerations of ordering:
1. No oral Hypaque for anesthesia patients.
2. CT intervention (needle biopsies,aspirations)
   Check labs (PT, PTT,& platelets)
   24 hours prior to test.
3. Consult the radiologist if patient
   is taking oral glucophauge.
4. Oral Hypaque mixture:  Mix a ten gram bottle
   of Hypaque powder in 16 ounces of clear liquid. 
   Dose appropriate to age as listed below.


0-1 years:
 NPO 6 hours before test, except oral hypaque.
 4 ounces of Hypaque mixture, 
 4 and 2 hours before test.


1-5 years: 
 NPO 6 hours before test, except oral hypaque.
 8 ounces of Hypaque mixture,
 4 and 2 hours before test.


6-12 years: 
 NPO 6 hours before test, except oral hypaque.
 12 ounces of Hypaque mixture, 
 4 and 2 hours before test.


12YRS & UP:
 NPO 6 hours before test, except oral hypaque. 
 16 ounces of Hypaque mixture 
 4 and 2 hours before test.
