Renal Scan with DMSA

You have been scheduled for a Renal study which involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned on an imaging table. A special detector called a gamma camera will be placed close to you for the first set of images, and will rotate around you for the second set. The camera does not produce any radiation
Patient Preparation
None.
Procedure
You will have 2 visits to the department. On your first visit, a small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be acquired for approximately 30 minutes. On your second visit, images will be obtained for approximately one hour.
