Cystogram (voiding)

* Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

You have been scheduled for a Voiding Cystogram study which involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material.  The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.

You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera.  The camera does not produce any radiation.  It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.

Patient Preparation

None.

Procedure

Once in the exam room you will have a catheter inserted into your bladder.  (A Catheter is a small tube used to withdraw and inject fluids). A small amount of radioactive material is put into your bladder along with some saline.  Your bladder is filled and then you are instructed to empty your bladder.  Painless images of your bladder are obtained continuously during this study. The study is repeated again, as long as the catheter is still in place after the first set of images.  The entire procedure usually lasts up to 1 hour.
