Cisternogram

You have been scheduled for a Cisternogram study which involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned on an imaging table, under a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.

Procedure
You will visit the department 3-6 times. On your first visit a small amount of radioactive material will be injected in your lumbar spine, usually done under fluoroscopy. On your visit a few hours later and for the next 1-3 days, painless images will be obtained for approximately one hour.
