Billary Scan
* Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
You have been scheduled for a Biliary study (HIDA) which involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned on an imaging table, under a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
No food or drink 4-6 hours before the exam.
No morphine for 4-6 hours before the exam.
Tell the technologist if you have not eaten solid food for more than 24 hours.
Procedure
A small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for approximately 1 to 2 hours. Delayed images may be needed 3 to 4 hours later.
