General Instructions for all Examinations

Note: The following preps are for outpatient care only.

CRITICAL MEDICATION EXCEPTIONS

The exception to this is for patients who have severe breathing problems or seizures. These patients may take their breathing medicine or seizure medication with a small amount of water. Your physician may make additional exceptions. These medicines should be taken no closer to the examination time than two hours.

Special notice to patients scheduled for Intravenous Plyelogram
The material used in these examinations is an iodine preparation. If you have an allergy to iodine, you must have additional preparation for this exam. Your physician should contact this department for instructions for this additional prep.
Special notice to patients scheduled for Intravenous Pyelogram
If you are diabetic and are taking Glucophage you must be off the medication for two days before and two days after the examination. Also you must have a laboratory exam for kidney function before restarting Glucophage. Ask your physician for instructions.
