Neuroradiology
Our mission is to provide the highest-quality patient care and improve the well-being of our patients through excellence in education, community service, research and technology, and leadership activities locally, nationally and internationally.
The University of Michigan Division of Neuroradiology is under the direction of Suresh K. Mukherji, M.D., and consists of 18 neuroradiologists. The division is responsible for all neuroimaging performed at the main University Hospital, Mott Children's Hospital and the Ann Arbor Veteran's Administration Hospital. In Fiscal Year 2007, we performed more than 25,000 CTs, 22,000 MRIs, and 1,500 neuroangiography and spine procedures. The faculty is a mix of senior, mid-level and junior members. Our team has published more than 700 peer-reviewed papers, 100 non-peered reviewed papers (not including book chapters), and 13 books. The faculty have presented more than 650 abstracts and 200 scientific exhibits, and have given more than 550 invited lectures. The division's expertise is integrated with faculty who have special expertise in interventional neuroradiology, head and neck radiology, spine imaging, epilepsy, and advanced metabolic imaging techniques in both MR and CT.
The division has access to state-of-the-art equipment in all modalities. There are 9 MRI units (7 clinical, 2 research) of which three are 3T units. A total of 12 CT scanners are housed in our health care system. This includes four 64-slice MDCT scanners and six other MDCT machines with plans to expand to 12 scanners (7 64-slice units) within the next 18 months. Diagnostic neuroangiography is performed by faculty members of the Neuroradiology and Neurointerventional divisions. Our primary neuroangiography room is a Siemens Axiom Artis biplane unit with Leonardo 3D workstation. Our new Siemens multipurpose room has 3D rotational angiography capabilities. Our neuroangiography capabilities will soon expand to a 4,500-square-foot neuroangiography suite, which will house a combined CT-biplane neuroangiography unit, Axiom Artis and a multipurpose room for interventional spine procedures.
We collaborate very closely with the department of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Otolaryngology, and Radiation Oncology; many of our faculty have joint appointments in these divisions. This provides a stimulating collegial atmosphere with more than 20 multidisciplinary conferences per week. These conferences include teaching conferences, tumor boards and clinical working conferences.
The division has an ACGME-accredited Neuroradiology fellowship program and is accredited for four fellows per year.
We invite you to learn more about our division by navigating to our other sections:
- Our Division section can provide you with more in-depth information regarding our clinical operations.
- Our Education has information about our ACGME-accredited fellowship and our core curriculum for our residency training program.
- Our Research describes the academic accomplishments of our division faculty, along with their research interests.
- Our Faculty & Staff lists the educational backgrounds, clinical expertise and research interests of our faculty and fellows.
- For Referring Physicians helps referring physicians schedule appointments, provides directions to the hospital and gives answers to frequently asked questions.
We hope you find this site useful, and we thank you for your interest in the Neuroradiology Division at the University of Michigan.
