Case IV: 42 year old male with PVNS of the knee.

Image I: AP radiograph of the right knee shows multiple erosions with sclerotic margins affecting a large portion of the articular surface of the femur.

Image J: Axial sonographic image of the suprapatellar bursa shows a heterogeneous mass occupying the bursa (yellow arrows). The anterior aspect of the distal femur is indicated (blue arrows).

  • Sonographic imaging findings in PVNS include complex, heterogeneous masses and thickened synovium. The sonographic findings are non-specific and may be seen in other causes of synovitis such as rheumatoid arthritis.
