Overview – Diagnostic Radiology
The Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan offers post-residency fellowships in various specialties of diagnostic imaging for a one-year or two-year time period. These fellowships are designed to provide individuals an opportunity for specialized training and academic development. The fellow will actively participate in all functions of the selected division, and will assume significant responsibility for its daily operation under the supervision of a full-time faculty member. The fellowship will emphasize current state-of-the-art practices and newer imaging techniques within the selected area of sub-specialization. Opportunities to instruct radiology residents and/or perform basic or clinical research in the selected area will be provided.
The Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan Hospitals is responsible for diagnostic imaging at the University's Medical Center, which includes nearly 1000 hospital beds in the main, children's and women's hospitals and cardiovascular center and a large outpatient facility. The range of clinical material available is reflected in the diagnostic output of approximately over 600,000 examinations yearly. Inasmuch as the University of Michigan Hospitals is a large tertiary referral center, a very high percentage of cases studied in the radiology department have significant pathology, and the variety of clinical material is outstanding.
