Abdominal Radiology: Ultrasound Fellowship
The Ultrasound Division offers a fellowship in abdominal CT and abdominal MR as part of a combined Cross-Sectional Imaging fellowship.
In addition, a commonly arranged Women's Imaging/Mammography fellowship combines 6 months of breast imaging with 6 months of ultrasound.
The women's imaging portion of this fellowship provides in-depth training in the performance and interpretation of obstetrical, gynecological, carotid, small parts, breast, musculoskeletal, Doppler (including color flow) and abdominal ultrasound exams, including biopsy and drainage procedures (as part of the abdominal interventional service). Extensive experience in intra-operative, transvaginal and prostate scanning is also provided. Full-time, nationally recognized faculty members closely supervise the fellow. Participation in ongoing clinical and/or basic research is encouraged. Scanning occurs in eight separate sites, which includes 18 modern scanning suites staffed by 28 sonographers who perform more than 30,000 examinations annually. Equipment consists of 19 real-time scanners, all with Doppler and color-flow Doppler capability. Two machines have real-time 3D capability. Two machines have rf capture capability. A large teaching file is stored on the ultrasound information system. Bi-weekly ultrasound teaching conferences occur throughout the year. In addition, five post-graduate courses including ultrasonography are held annually at the university.
