Anesthesiology
- Centricity: Providing safer, higher-quality, lower-cost anesthesia care. The University of Michigan Health System was involved in developing one of the most successful clinical information systems in the world.
Cardiovascular Care
- The University of Michigan applies real-time monitoring to American College of Cardiology’s Guidelines Applied in Practice project (GAP project). Combination of GAP guidelines and real-time implementation leads to higher use of evidence-based therapies and better outcomes.
Cost-effectiveness
- UMHS clinical documentation improvement program impacts bottom line. Revamping documentation process promotes efficiency, quality and improves payments to institution.
Health Care Assessments/Rankings
- UMHS receives high marks for quality care on Joint Commission and Hospital Compare Web sites. The Commission and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services examine patient discharges for acute myocardial infarction (heart attacks), heart failure, pneumonia care and surgical care improvement prevention.
Intensive Care
- U-M has a lower risk of mortality in adult medical and surgical intensive care units, compared to national APACHE database. U-M's ICU mortality rates are much better than expected for the kinds of patients treated in these ICUs.
- University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital is in top quartile for mortality of pediatric ICU patients (PRISM III assessment). Pediatric patients receiving PICU care at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital receive excellent care.
Pharmacy Services
- LabelSafe: Pharmacy and technology go hand in hand to promote medication safety. UMHS develops software to improve the safety of medication repackaging and labeling.
- UMHS Pharmacy Services builds high-quality on-line formulary and patient monitoring project. Nominated by the founders of Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, UMHS wins two Smithsonian awards for medication technology.
- UMHS prescribes technology for medication safety. When it comes to medication error, UMHS eliminates the dependence on human checks alone.
